POOL HEATERS GUIDE

What to know about pool heaters

Extend the swim season in Palm Beach County

South Florida pools are usable for much of the year, but winter cold fronts and cool mornings can make the water uncomfortable just when many residents and visitors want to swim. A properly sized and maintained pool heater keeps the water at a comfortable temperature, so the pool stays part of daily life instead of sitting unused from December through March.

Pure Tek Air services, repairs and installs pool heaters for homes and businesses. We work with RayPak, AquaCal and AquaComfort equipment, among other brands, and we bring the same diagnose-first approach we use for air conditioning.

Heat pumps versus gas heaters

Most South Florida pools are well suited to heat pump heaters, which move heat from the warm outdoor air into the water and are usually efficient to operate in our climate. Gas heaters can warm a pool faster and are sometimes used for spas or occasional rapid heating. The right choice depends on the size of the pool, how often you swim, whether you have a spa, your fuel availability and your budget. We explain the tradeoffs honestly.

Sizing matters

An undersized heater runs constantly and still struggles to reach temperature. An oversized one costs more upfront than necessary. We size heaters based on surface area, volume, exposure to wind and shade, whether a cover is used and the temperature you want. That calculation is the difference between a heater that performs and one that disappoints.

Common pool heater problems

Heaters that will not start, display error codes, frost over or fail to hold temperature are among the most common calls we receive. Causes include water flow issues, failed sensors, refrigerant problems in heat pumps, ignition issues in gas heaters and corroded components from salt air or pool chemistry. We trace the actual cause before replacing parts.

Maintenance and longevity

Pool heaters live outdoors next to chemically treated water, which is hard on equipment. Periodic service, including cleaning coils, checking water flow and inspecting electrical and gas components, helps heaters last longer and run more efficiently. If a heater is over ten years old and failing often, we will discuss whether replacement makes more sense.

Using your heater efficiently

A pool cover, a sensible set temperature and running the heater during warmer parts of the day can noticeably reduce heating costs, especially with heat pumps. We are happy to walk you through settings and schedules when we service or install a heater, so you get comfortable water without unnecessary energy use.

If your pool sits near the coast or a salt chlorinator, we can also discuss equipment placement and corrosion-resistant options that help a new heater last longer in our environment.

Where we work

We service pool heaters throughout Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Wellington and Jupiter.

Residential and commercial pools

We heat backyard pools and spas as well as pools at hotels, condominiums, HOAs, clubs and fitness centers. Commercial pools often need multiple heaters and careful planning for heavy daily use. Call (561) 806-9545 or use the request form to schedule service.
